Companion Dog Project — Owner Portal Terms of Service & Privacy Policy
Effective Date: March 4, 2026
By creating an account on or accessing the Companion Dog Project ("CDP") Owner Portal, you ("Owner," "you," or "your") agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms") and the Privacy Policy set forth herein. If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not use the Owner Portal.
The CDP Owner Portal is operated by the Companion Dog Project, LLC. These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and CDP. We reserve the right to update or modify these Terms at any time. If we make material changes, we will notify you via the email address associated with your account or through the Owner Portal. Your continued use of the Owner Portal after such changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
The CDP Owner Portal provides dog owners with access to records and tools related to their registered dog(s), including but not limited to:
CDP reserves the right to add, modify, or discontinue features of the Owner Portal at any time with or without notice.
To access the Owner Portal, you must create an account using a valid email address. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during the registration process and to update such information as needed to keep it accurate.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. You agree to notify CDP immediately of any unauthorized use of your account. CDP is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to safeguard your account information.
You must be at least 18 years of age to create an Owner Portal account. If you are creating an account on behalf of a minor, you represent that you are the parent or legal guardian of that minor and accept these Terms on their behalf.
4.1 Registry Records Are Controlled by the Breeder. Your dog's registration records — including registered name, breed composition, pedigree, health clearances, genetic test results, and any other data entered by the breeder — are created and managed by the breeder or program. The breeder determines whether these records are publicly visible or hidden. You acknowledge that you do not have the ability to make your dog's registry records public or private.
4.2 Updates You Submit. The Owner Portal allows you to submit updates related to your dog. By submitting any update, you agree that:
4.3 Your Personal Contact Information. When a breeder adds you as an owner, they may enter contact information for you. Because the breeder entered this information, it is visible to them. If you update your contact information through the Owner Portal, those updates are private to you and CDP by default unless you choose to share them. By default, your name is not displayed publicly on your dog's registry record. You may opt in to having your name appear on your dog's public profile.
5.1 We collect personal information (name, email, address, phone), dog-related information, usage data, and optional survey responses.
5.2 We use this information to provide and improve the Owner Portal, maintain records, communicate with you, conduct research using aggregated data, and comply with legal obligations.
5.3 CDP does not sell your personal information. We may share data with breeders as described above, share aggregated/de-identified data for research, share with service providers under confidentiality obligations, or disclose as required by law.
5.4 We implement commercially reasonable security measures including encryption and access controls.
5.5 We retain your information for as long as your account is active. Dog registration and health records are retained indefinitely as part of CDP's permanent registry.
5.6 You may have rights to access, correct, or request deletion of your personal data. Registry records may not be eligible for deletion.
Microchip registration is a separate, optional service. If you choose to register a microchip, you will be asked to review and accept the CDP Microchip Registration Agreement.
CDP may send optional surveys. Participation is voluntary and will not affect your access to the Owner Portal. Survey responses may be used in aggregated form for research.
Health-related information may be used in aggregated/de-identified form for research. Your personal identity will never be disclosed. You may contact us to opt out.
You retain ownership of content you submit. By submitting content, you grant CDP a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use it in connection with CDP's services and mission.
The Owner Portal is provided "as is" without warranties. CDP's total liability shall not exceed the amount you have paid to CDP in the twelve months preceding a claim.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan. Disputes shall be resolved in Michigan courts.
